Pat's History
Chabot College Days (1971 - 1977)
Pat was hired at Chabot College in 1971. He was hired to specifically teach gymnastics, WSI swimming courses, and to coach the Track and Field team. He was an assistant coach to Head Coach Glen Malcom and was taken under the guidance of his "God Gather" Zack Papachristos and his assistant Bob Thompson. Pat would later coach football under Keith Calkins and become good friends with his student and later to become his colleague Larry Aguiar. Larry got Pat involved in handball where in 1977 Pat won the Northern California "B" division title. He went on to went some other tournaments too. At this same time Pat played flag football in Livermore where he and his quarterback and friend Chuck Kolb torn up the league. Pat started the Chabot College All comer Track Meets which still continue today. It was fun working, playing, and raising a family. The Pohl kids were sucked into Pat's activities. They followed his handball career where I remember Tammy not watching the final game but rather standing outside the court door praying because she thought it was bad luck to watch her dad play. She also witness him winning championships in flag football. They all ran in the track meets and followed the ultimate teams journies to many championships. All the kids played ultimate also. But Ultimate is covered in later years at LPC. Pat also taught tennis, racquetball, decathlon training, badminton, and volleyball at Chabot.
